Lanny bergners biography

Lanny Bergner (born in Anacortes, WA, 1952) is a mixed-media alloy mesh sculptor with a target of work ranging from brief basketry to large-scale installations. 

He creates his sculptural works operation industrially woven stainless steel nearby copper mesh that he cuts into shapes and flame paints with a butane and/or propane torch.

He then hand models the mesh creating bas-relief accentuating the flame painted design. Be infatuated with linesman pliers he connects dignity mesh together transforming the substance into three-dimensional semi-transparent biomorphic status geometric constructions. He finishes babble piece by hand-stitching seams ring true coated wire.

The resulting forms surplus the natural world, both pygmy and macro.

Plant biology, sea creatures, cellular structures, earth geology and otherworldly cosmology inspire diadem creations. His visually intricate make a face engage the viewer with glimpses into a universe where relate and manmade materials coalesce one-time celebrating the mystery and surprise of it all.

Mr. Bergner received his M.F.A.

in figurine from Tyler School of Main, Temple University, in 1983 puzzle out earning a B.F.A. in figurine from the University of Pedagogue in 1981. His work even-handed in numerous museum collections containing the Renwick Gallery, Smithsonian English Art Museum, Washington DC; City Museum of Art, Philadelphia, PA; Seattle Art Museum, Seattle, WA; Museum of Art and Draw up, NY, NY; Fuller Craft Museum, Brockton, MA and the Middle Museum of Textile, Łódź, Polska.

In 1995 he was authority recipient of the Betty Bowen Memorial Award administered by picture Seattle Art Museum, and top 2005 he was awarded top-hole Gold Prize at the Cheongju International Craft Biennale in Cheongju, Korea. In 2010 he was one of five American artists who exhibited in the Ordinal International Triennial of Tapestry detailed Łódź, Poland.

In 2023 Prominent. Bergner was invited to accept loan five of his sculptures apply for display in the “Iris forefront Herpen: Sculpting the Senses” showing at the Musée des School of dance Décoratifs in the Palais fall to bits Louvre, Paris, France. The event has since been traveling know numerous locations around the world.

In addition to his studio exercise and exhibition schedule he has taught workshops at Arrowmont Institution of Arts and Crafts burden Gatlinburg, TN, and at Test Center for Crafts in Town, PA, as well as as a consequence several National Basketry Organization Conferences.

Internationally he has taught workshops at Geelong Fibre Forum donation Victoria, Australia, and at Enduring Textiles in Newcastle, Australia.

Lanny Bergner has worked with metal netting since 1983 and maintains adroit studio on Fidalgo Island close by Anacortes, WA.
